FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How easy is it to change my installation to LED lighting?
Extremely easy. ALI’s innovation is in its design that allows you to use all your existing connectors and/or lamp holders. The weight of the replacement lamps and their load requirement are identical to your original lamps. For example, with ALI’s 12mm Replacement LED Lamp, there is no rewiring, no new connectors, no new lamp holders, no new dimmers, and no new controllers. It is 100% interchangeable.
What is a triband lamp?
A triband lamp is a tri-phosphor lamp or a prime color lamp. Triband lamps produce prime color white light resulting in beautiful coloration, a high level of clarity, and an added visual definition to any interior. Triband lamps do not waste energy in wavelengths humans do not respond to. The color-rendering capability and energy-saving features make triband lamps the fluorescent lamps of choice.
What are the differences between the 35 and the 45 series lamps?
The 35 series (3500 K source) fluorescent lamps produce warm white light while the 45 series (4500 K source) produce cool white light. Because of its warm light, the 35 series lamp complement incandescent lights. They are particularly desirable where high color rendering illumination is required. The 45 series (4500 K source) fluorescent lamps are best equated to daylight at noon on a mid-summer day. The 45 series lamps are used to produce a blue white illumination of nature. They render a cool, neat, and efficient appearance of cool white and are perfect for the executive office and any area where color matching is important.
What is an LED?
LED is an abbreviation for a light-emitting diode. LEDs is a solid-state technology, which means there is no glass bulb, no pressurized gases, no mercury and no burning filament. With LED technology, what you have is a circuit board and a computer chip. The properties of the chip create light that is generated and focused through a plastic diode to create light. Depending on the chip and materials used, different colors in the color spectrum can be created. In recent years, LED technology has completely changed and reinvented the light bulb and the way we think about lighting in general. This was not really possible prior to the technological revolution of the ‘90s and the rapid advancement of the microchip. Over the years, LED lights have become brighter, smaller, less expensive, and more sophisticated.
What are the advantages of using LED lighting?
Compared to a traditional light bulb, LED lighting is much more efficient and produces considerably more light per watt than a traditional bulb. Typical household lamps are rated for 1,500 to 2,000 hours while LEDs can last 50,000 hours or more. Whereas typical household lamps require 120 volts, an LED uses just two or three volts.
In the aircraft industry, there are quite a few advantages to using LED lighting.
LED lights are heatless, reducing aircraft vulnerability to fire
LED lights are 10x more efficient than fluorescent tubes, using 90% less energy
LED lights have a long life span, reducing costs and need for maintenance
LED lights are solid-state, eliminating flickering towards the end of its life
LEDs are compact, making them ideal for placement in difficult-to-reach places
LEDs are shatterproof, ensuring added safety in case of transport or plane disturbances
LEDs do not contain any dangerous chemicals like mercury, allowing for easy disposal
LEDs are DMX (color)-controllable, allowing for LED colors to be changed with a simple color-controller system, which can be used for spotlights and other creative mood lighting
The bottom line is that LEDs are easier and safer to use than all previous lighting technologies. Plus, LEDs will save you money by consuming less power, lasting much longer, and generating much less heat, which in turn combine to result in lower climate control costs.
Why is the life span of an LED measured as lumen depreciation?
The life span of an LED is vastly longer than that of incandescent, fluorescent or HID lamp sources, generally lasting 50,000 hours or longer. Although the LED never really burns out, product life span is measured by lumen depreciation. The Illuminating Engineering Society’s (IES) current standard for calculating the life of an LED as the point at which the LED reaches 30 percent lumen depreciation. A 100,000-hour rating is not equivalent to lamp life rating. LED life is rated where it has reached 30 percent lumen depreciation. At 100,000 hours an LED would still be operating, but at a decreased lumen output.
